We left the Pitcairn Iceland the day before yesterday and making good way en route to Tahiti, thanks to the decent winds. We hope to arrive there in about one week. If we go on with that speed, we will probably be ahead of schedule and might make a short stop at another atoll on the way. OceanCare Meeting
On 31 March 2011 took place in the Hotel Montana in Zurich OceanCare the General Assembly. Around 40 members attended and took the opportunity for a personal encounter with the ocean care team and board. They could also Kerstin Cook, the reigning Miss Switzerland exchange. Plastic Alarm: OceanCare and 5 Gyres join forces
The plastic problem is as big as the world's plastic-delusion – and the garbage slicks in the oceans. And the problem is identified: under the name “5 Gyres” a large, worldwide organization has been launched, which announces the plastic littering the seas in the fight. The seal hunt in Canada continues
Yesterday opened the Canadian Department of Fisheries, the seal hunt off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. The sealers were explicitly prompted to inquire before the hunt for the fur traders, whether there is a demand for seal pelts.Hunting in the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence River is literally dropped into the water, because due to the lack of ice, there was almost no seals and so was just one percent of the quota. 97 percent for an import ban on seal products in Switzerland
If the Swiss can decide today that there is in Switzerland a clear ban on the import of seal products.The Institute gfs-Zurich in February 2011 on behalf of the Fondation Franz Weber survey showed that 89 percent of respondents to the sale or trade of seal products are critical of or hostile to – and this without mentioning the current hunting methods The EU decided on 20 August 2010, an import ban on seal products came into force.
